Penetration Testing

Penetration Testing for Small Businesses in Illinois

We attack your network, applications, and Wi-Fi the way a real intruder would, under a signed authorization and a controlled scope, then show you exactly how we got in and how to close each gap. Fixed price, plain-language report, and a free retest of your fixes.

Why test

A scan lists weaknesses. A penetration test proves what an attacker can do with them.

Automated scanners stop at a list of possible issues. A penetration test chains them together, confirms what is really exploitable, and ranks what to fix first.

Required by some regulations

The FTC Safeguards Rule requires an annual penetration test, plus vulnerability assessments every six months, for covered financial institutions such as auto dealers and tax firms (unless they monitor continuously or hold data on fewer than 5,000 consumers).

16 CFR § 314.4(d)(2)

Expected by insurers and clients

Cyber insurers, larger customers, and public-sector buyers increasingly ask for proof of recent security testing. A test report with fixes documented answers those questionnaires.

Safe and authorized

Every test starts with a written authorization and an agreed scope. We use controlled proof-of-concept techniques and schedule sensitive tests outside your business hours.

FAQ

Penetration testing: questions from business owners

What is the difference between a vulnerability scan and a penetration test?

A vulnerability scan is automated and lists possible weaknesses. A penetration test is performed by a person who tries to exploit them, chains them together, and proves what an attacker could actually reach. It produces far fewer false alarms and a clearer priority list.

Is a penetration test risky for my systems?

Testing is done under a signed scope, with controlled techniques designed not to disrupt production. Anything that could affect availability is discussed with you first and scheduled outside business hours.

How long does a test take?

Most small-business tests take from a few days to about two weeks, depending on the scope. You receive the report shortly after testing ends, followed by a results meeting.

Do you retest after we fix the issues?

Yes. One free retest of the fixed findings within 60 days is included with every penetration test.

How often should we test?

At least once a year and after major changes, such as a new office network, a new application, or a new remote access setup. Some regulations, like the FTC Safeguards Rule, require an annual test.

Will our IT provider be involved?

We coordinate with your IT provider on scheduling and share the results with them, so fixes can start right away. The test stays independent from the people who manage your systems.
